2011 Season / Patrol Training
Posted April 24, 2011
We are geared up and ready to go for our 15th season of patrolling in Buffalo Creek. We hope you are too! Nothing will change in our operations this season so it's business as usual. Our training day for new patrollers is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, 5/28. More on that later.
As we have done in the past, you can pre-schedule your patrol dates for the season. Just send us your dates and we'll plug them in the calendar. We'll accept dates on a first come, first serve basis so the sooner you get them into us, the better chance you have of securing them. Feel free to send in your dates any time.
There's something new in Buff Ck. this season. Last Saturday, COMBA completed Raspberry Ridge and Blackjack trails. They are officially open but they have not been signed yet. COMBA and the USFS hope to have signage in place before the beginning of the patrol season. These trails are off of Homestead trail near Charlies Cutoff. Raspberry Ridge is a cross-country style trail with some technical features thrown in to keep things interesting. It is about a mile climb to the summit. Once at the top, you are treated to what the USFS biologist said are the best views in Buffalo Creek. It's a nice change for an out and back or you can continue downhill on Blackjack trail.
Blackjack has a lot of technical features on it and it's not for the faint of heart. There are "easier" routes around some of the more challenging features but they are not always easy. It's something completely different for Buffalo Creek and the Front Range so it will probably see a lot of traffic this season. Here's a link to some pics and a short video which will give you a taste of the trail... It's Open!
If you know of any friends who might be interested in joining the patrol, feel free to forward this email onto them and have them get in touch with us. We can always use more volunteers. Also, if you would like to be removed from our email list, let us know and we'll take care of.
We're looking forward to another fun filled and safe season. If have any questions, please feel free to ask.
